Our Story
Built the hard way
Hampson & Mealey was founded in 2022 at the age of 24 and named after my grandparents. The business has grown, but the values remain the same: hard work, straight talking and treating customers fairly.
Before starting Hampson & Mealey, I spent six years working in transport. After moving to Kirkham to buy a home and start a family, I was working as a concrete mixer driver. When work dried up during the winter, I realised I could not rely on somebody else to guarantee the bills were paid.
At the time I had a small van as my personal vehicle. I booked my first £40 job moving a woman to a vulnerable persons facility, and I was hooked. A few more small jobs followed, then I hired a larger van and properly tested the removals sector before committing to big purchases.
One of my first long-distance jobs was for a customer called Dushan, moving from Wrea Green to Gainsborough. After six months of 6am to 9pm, seven days a week, I bought my first van. By the following summer we were hiring trucks for major long-distance moves.
Storage Growth
From removals to a growing storage site
Removals is a difficult industry: last-minute bookings, cancellations and short notice are normal. We still love a big house move, but storage gives customers flexibility and gives the business long-term stability.
What started as a few containers for removals customers has become a public self-storage site with over 40 shipping containers and more planned.
