About Hampson & Mealey

Before founding Hampson & Mealey, our background was in the transport industry, with over six years spent working across a range of logistics and driving roles. After moving to Kirkham to buy a home and start a family, the reality of relying on seasonal work became increasingly clear. At the time, employment as a concrete mixer driver provided valuable experience, but when work slowed during the winter months, it highlighted the importance of building something more secure and dependable.

What started as a small side venture quickly became an opportunity. Using a personal van, the first paid job was a modest £40 move helping a customer relocate to a supported living facility. The work was rewarding, demand continued to grow, and one small job soon led to another. Rather than making a major investment immediately, the removals sector was tested carefully by hiring larger vehicles when required and learning what customers really valued from a removals company.

One of the earliest long-distance moves was for a customer relocating from Wrea Green to Gainsborough. Jobs like these helped establish a reputation for reliability and hard work, while providing valuable experience handling moves of all sizes. For the first six months, the business was built through long days, early starts and seven-day weeks, with every enquiry treated as an opportunity to earn trust and build a name within the local community.

As demand increased, the first dedicated removals van was purchased. By the following summer, larger vehicles were regularly being hired to complete major long-distance relocations across the UK. What began with a single van and a determination to provide a dependable service gradually evolved into a growing removals and storage company serving households and businesses throughout Preston, Kirkham, Fylde and the wider Lancashire area.

Today, Hampson & Mealey combines the work ethic and practical experience gained in transport with a customer-focused approach to removals, self-storage and commercial logistics. While the business has grown considerably since those early days, the same principles remain at its core: honest advice, fair pricing, hard work and treating every customer's belongings with care and respect.
