Hampson & Mealey (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a family-run removal and storage company based in Lancashire. We are the data controller for the personal information you provide to us.

  • When you request a quote or make a booking: your name, telephone number, email address, current address, and destination address.
  • When you contact us by phone, email, or WhatsApp: the content of your communications.
  • When you use our self-storage facility: identity documents provided for access and records of storage unit use.
  • CCTV footage recorded at our Kirkham storage site for security purposes.
  • Browsing data collected automatically via cookies when you visit our website (see Section 8).

We do not collect payment card details directly. Any card payments are handled by our payment processor and are not stored by us.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal grounds under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR):

  • Contract: To provide you with a quote, confirm your booking, and carry out your removal or storage.
  • Legal obligation: To comply with tax, accounting, and insurance requirements.
  • Legitimate interests: To improve our services, respond to enquiries, and operate our storage facility securely (including CCTV).
  • Consent: Where we ask your permission before sending marketing communications.

4. How We Use Your Data

  • To prepare and send quotations.
  • To confirm and administer bookings.
  • To communicate with you about your move or storage agreement.
  • To process invoices and record payments.
  • To manage access to our storage facility.
  • To respond to enquiries, complaints, or legal claims.

5. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with:

  • Our employees and subcontractors involved in carrying out your removal or storage.
  • Our insurers, where a claim arises relating to your goods.
  • Our accountant and HMRC, to the extent required by tax law.
  • Review platforms (Checkatrade, TrustATrader, Google) only if you choose to leave a review through those services.
  • Law enforcement or regulatory authorities if required by law.

Our website uses the following third-party services that may process limited data about site visitors:

  • Google Fonts — font files served from Google’s CDN (your IP address is logged by Google).
  • Elfsight — embeds our Google review widget on the homepage.
  • Checkatrade — embeds our Checkatrade review score widget on the homepage.
  • TrustATrader — embeds our TrustATrader review widget on the homepage.

6. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Customer booking and invoice records: 6 years from completion, to satisfy HMRC requirements.
  • Enquiries that do not proceed to a booking: 12 months.
  • Storage access records: the duration of the storage agreement plus 12 months.
  • CCTV footage: 30 days, unless required for an investigation.

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Subject Access Request).
  • Have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Request erasure of your data where there is no legitimate reason to continue processing it.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
  • Data portability (where processing is automated and consent- or contract-based).
  • Withdraw consent at any time (where we rely on consent).

8. Cookies

Our website uses essential session cookies required for the site to function. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies without your consent.
