Real proof, not generic promises

How we protect your belongings

This is the practical side of a good move: protecting mattresses, furniture, floors and the schedule before anything goes on the van.

Reusable mattress bags

Mattresses can mark easily during a move, so we use reusable mattress protection bags rather than leaving them exposed.

Thick transit blankets

Furniture is covered with heavy-duty transit blankets and loaded securely to reduce rubbing, knocks and movement in the vehicle.

Carpet and floor care

Where required, we use carpet roll protectors and plan the route through the property before lifting starts.

Packing and wrapping

Full or partial packing support is available, including wrapping, boxes and careful preparation of fragile items.

Correct vehicle sizing

We assess volume properly and explain the vehicle, crew and time required before move day.

Realistic scheduling

If a move needs two days, we will say so. We would rather plan properly than rush your belongings around.

Careful planning. Local people. A smoother move.

Careful planning

Built around access, timing and careful handling

A successful move depends on more than lifting boxes. We plan access, parking, loading order and timing so move day feels controlled rather than chaotic.

More than 250 long-distance moves

Long-distance removals built on transport experience

Long-distance removals need more than a large vehicle and a postcode. Collection access, volume, load security, route time, rest, delivery access and the order in which essential items are loaded all affect whether the move runs well.

Hampson & Mealey has completed more than 250 long-distance moves. Real destinations include Cornwall, Kent, Dorset, Hull, Newcastle, Arbroath, Aberdeen and Fort William, alongside one of the company’s earliest long-distance jobs from Wrea Green to Gainsborough.

Planning collection and delivery as one job

The collection should be surveyed with the destination in mind. A vehicle that can access the first property may not suit the second, and a delivery to a city flat is different from unloading at a rural house. Photos, measurements and honest information about both addresses make the quotation and schedule more dependable.

Loading order matters over distance. Items needed first should not disappear behind goods intended for another room, while furniture and boxes need securing for many hours on the road rather than a short local journey.

Why realistic dates matter

Customers can underestimate how quickly good removal slots disappear, especially in summer. Booking late can restrict the available vehicle and crew. Key-release delays can also affect departure, so same-day completion and a distant delivery may require a different plan from the one first imagined.

If dates do not align, storage can separate the collection from the final delivery. That may be calmer and safer than forcing a house move, a long drive and an uncertain key release into one day.

Six years in transport before the first removal van

Before Hampson & Mealey began in November 2022, the founder spent six years in transport. The removals business started with a small personal van and a first paid £40 move into supported accommodation. Larger vans were hired to test demand before vehicles were purchased and trucks hired for major moves.

That transport-first background is visible in route planning, vehicle sizing and load security. It is practical experience rather than a generic claim about being established for decades.

Frequently asked questions

Practical questions before booking

Do you cover Scotland and the south of England?

Yes. Completed work includes Cornwall, Kent, Dorset, Newcastle, Arbroath, Aberdeen and Fort William.

Can a long-distance move take more than one day?

Yes. The safest realistic schedule depends on volume, access, distance and delivery timing. If two days are needed, that will be explained before booking.

Can you store belongings before the final delivery?

Yes. Flexible container storage can bridge uncertain dates or give customers time before receiving everything at the new address.
