Timing is everything with house removals — and booking your removal company is one of the most time-sensitive tasks in the whole moving process.
The short answer
As a general rule: get quotes as soon as you have agreed a sale or purchase, and confirm your booking immediately after exchange of contracts. For popular dates (end of month, school holidays, Fridays), aim to book at least 4–6 weeks ahead.
Why you need to book early
A typical house sale takes around 16 weeks from offer accepted to completion. During that time, removal companies fill up fast — particularly for end-of-month completion dates. If you wait until a week before your completion day, you may find your preferred company is fully booked.
The two-stage approach we recommend
- Get your survey and quote early — once your offer is accepted, call us to arrange a free home survey. We can hold a provisional date for you.
- Confirm on exchange — the moment you exchange contracts and your completion date is legally set, call us to confirm. We will lock in your date and send written confirmation.
Never exchange and complete on the same day
We strongly advise against same-day exchange and completion. If possible, give yourself at least a full working week between exchange and completion so that all logistics — yours and ours — can be properly confirmed.
