Moving day is something most people only experience a handful of times in their lives — so it is understandable to feel unsure about what to expect. Here is an honest guide to how the day typically goes when you move with Hampson & Mealey.
The morning: loading
Our team typically arrives between 7:30am and 8:00am. We will introduce ourselves, do a quick walk-through of the property, and then get straight to work. Furniture and large appliances come out first; boxes and smaller items follow.
The loading phase usually takes 2–4 hours depending on the size of the move. We protect your flooring with floor runners and wrap furniture in blankets to prevent any marks or scratches in transit.
Getting access to your new home
While we load, you will need to arrange key collection from your solicitor. In a chain, this cannot happen until the funds have cleared — which is typically mid-morning to early afternoon. We stay in close contact with you during this time so we know the moment you have the keys.
The afternoon: unloading
Once you have keys, we head to the new property and begin unloading. We will ask you which room each item goes into — so it is worth thinking about this in advance. Furniture goes to its room, boxes are stacked clearly by room label.
Reassembly
If we agreed reassembly as part of your quote, our team will put beds, wardrobes, and other flat-pack items back together before we leave. Make sure this is confirmed at the survey stage so it is included in your fixed-cost price.
End of day
Before we leave, we will do a final walk-through with you to make sure everything is in the right place and you are happy. Most moves are complete by 4–5pm, though this varies with chain complexity.
