How To Get An Accurate Removal Quote

An accurate removal quote is not about getting the cheapest number as quickly as possible. It is about making sure the mover understands the work, the customer understands what is included, and expectations are agreed before moving day. Most disappointment comes from a gap between what was quoted and what the customer quietly hoped would happen.

After completing more than 1,000 house moves, we have learned that a good quote starts with honesty. Tell us what matters. If furniture is brand new and you want extra wrapping, say so. If wardrobes need dismantling, say so. If the loft or garage is full, say so. A lower quote is not useful if it does not cover the service you actually expect.

Do not hide expectations to keep the quote low

Some customers are nervous about discussing what they really want because they worry the price will increase. The problem is that unspoken expectations do not disappear. They simply reappear on moving day, when there is less time to solve them properly.

One recent survey stood out because the customer made it clear that they had new furniture and did not want it marked. That allowed us to discuss extra wrapping properly. Because it was raised at the survey stage, it was easy to plan. That is how a quote should work.

Explain access, awkward items and unfinished jobs

The survey should cover access, parking, stairs, narrow turns, heavy furniture, sofa beds, American fridge freezers, wardrobes, glass furniture and anything that may need dismantling. These details affect labour. The destination being nearby does not make the sofa lighter or the washing machine easier to carry.

Customers often say they have “just got to” finish packing, take something off the wall, wrap items or dismantle furniture. Those jobs still take time, and if they are not finished before moving day, they slow the whole operation down.

Choose clarity over a vague cheap quote

A proper quote should make clear what is included: packing, dismantling, reassembly, storage, waiting time, extra protection and any access issues. If you compare quotes, compare the service as well as the price. A cheap quote that does not include the work you need can become expensive in stress, delay and disappointment.

Talk to us about your requirements

Tell us what needs moving, storing or collecting, where it is going, and what access is like. We will give practical advice before quoting so expectations are clear from the start.
